Junko and Frank Klaus Endowed Chair in Movement Disorders

Born and raised in Orange County, Dr. Moon is grateful to serve the community he loves. A lifelong fascination with the brain led him to consider a career in cognitive sciences before settling on medicine.

His grandmother’s Parkinson’s diagnosis while he was a student steered his interest toward neurology and movement disorders. “The most amazing computers can’t approximate the complexity of the human brain,” he says. “The brain is the last frontier. I chose to become a neurologist because it’s where I thought I could make the biggest difference.”

A Providence St. Jude Medical Center physician since 2007, Dr. Moon says he’s here to stay. “From the very beginning, I’ve felt supported — from the staff to the other physicians to the administration,” he says. “It’s a level of collaboration that makes us all more effective. For example, our incredible multispecialty peer review meetings unite us in improving patient care.”

Board-certified in neurology and neurophysiology, Dr. Moon is the principal investigator in multiple clinical trials, including evaluating new therapies and medications for stroke and Parkinson’s.

A remarkable gift

Dr. Moon is overjoyed to be appointed as the Junko and Frank Klaus Endowed Chair in Movement Disorders. “This is a huge honor,” he says. “I want to use the endowed chair to advance the understanding of neurologic diseases, particularly movement disorders, and improve the quality of life for patients.”

Brimming with gratitude for the Klaus family for creating this endowed chair, Dr. Moon shares, “It means a lot to me as a Providence St. Jude physician. It’s remarkable that a community member trusts us so much that they’re willing to make such an amazing gift. I’m beyond thankful.”
